Farvel til vapnen (English A Farewell to Arms) is a novel by the American author Ernest Hemingway and is his second novel. Like the debut novel Og solen gaar sin gang, Farewell to Arms is about "The lost generation". The novel is also described as a partially autobiographical novel. Like the debut novel "Og solen går sin gang", "Farewell to arms" also had a very great importance in many fields. The novel made a great many people aware of what a war entails for those who were sent out and their experiences in the war which would haunt them for the rest of their lives in terms of both physical and mental health. Like Erich Maria Remarque's novel Nothing New from the Western Front, the novel became one of the most important depictions of the First World War as seen from two eyewitnesses. Together with the "Nick Adams stories", "A Farewell to Arms" is in many ways a kind of autobiography from Ernest Hemingway, where the reader gets an insight into him and understands many aspects of him better. The novel was also of great importance for renewing love literature and is often referred to as a love novel for men as well.
